The Dover Police Association in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police and Bridgewater Credit Union invite the public to receive a complimentary child ID kit.
For immediate release:
DOVER, MA – On Saturday, September 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Dover Police Association will host a booth at the Dover Days Fair that focuses on AMBER Alert awareness, abduction prevention education, and the preparation of digital child identification kits. This booth will be held in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) at the American Legion Post 209, 32 Dedham St, Dover.
Dover Officers and MSP Troopers will be fingerprinting children and preparing digital child identification kits for parents to use in the event that their child goes missing or is abducted. Inside the child identification kit will be DNA buccal swab kits which are used to collect and store a sample of a child’s skin cells that can be used to confirm identity through DNA comparison. The buccal swab kits being distributed are maintained by the child’s parent or guardian for safekeeping, and can be stored in a refrigerator for up to three years.
This kit is provided at no cost to the public thanks to a generous donation from Bridgewater Credit Union to promote child safety. The program provides tools to help law enforcement authorities find and identify a lost or missing child. None of the information is copied and all the identifying materials are given to the child’s family to hold in case of emergency. Together they provide a powerful identification and recovery tool.
The AMBER Alert system activates an urgent bulletin in the most serious child abduction cases in an attempt to galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and safe recovery of the child. The AMBER Alert program has proven to represent the best hope for the safe recovery of abducted children and to date is responsible for or has assisted in the recovery of over 800 children nationwide. In the ten years since the AMBER Alert program’s inception in Massachusetts, there have been over 25 AMBER Alert activations seeking a total of over 30 abducted children. The program has ensured the safe recovery of all of these children. The success of the AMBER Alert program sends a strong message that crime against our children is grossly unacceptable and that as a society, we will work together to track down perpetrators who prey on children and safely recover the children they intend to harm.
